Project Overview
A commercial client in Nottingham needed a large, aging flat roof re-covered before the winter season. The building's height and restricted site access meant materials couldn't be moved efficiently by hand, so a mobile crane lift was planned into the works from the outset to keep the programme tight and reduce manual handling risk for the roofing team.
The Work
With scaffold and edge protection in place, our team coordinated a crane lift to get bulk materials to roof level safely and efficiently:
- Erected temporary scaffold access and edge protection to current safety standards
- Used a mobile crane to lift insulation boards, membrane rolls and flashing materials directly to roof level
- Stripped back the failing felt covering and damaged insulation, removing all waste from site
- Installed new tapered insulation for improved drainage falls and a high-performance single-ply membrane
- Fitted new upstands, flashings and roof edge trims throughout
- Carried out a full flood test to confirm the finished roof was completely watertight
Results
The client received a fully weatherproofed roof with minimal disruption to the building's daily operations:
- A fully weatherproof flat roof backed by a manufacturer warranty
- Reduced manual handling risk thanks to crane-assisted material delivery
- Works completed in 5 working days with the building remaining operational throughout
- Full compliance and warranty documentation handed over on completion
